Structures of Time for two flutes and piano (2018)
Composer’s note
The piece Structures of Time was composed especially for the Łukasz Długosz Trio. Time served as the inspiration for the work. The title Structures of Time should be interpreted not only horizontally, as is usually the case with the measurement of time (the saying „time flows”), but also vertically, as its successive layers. This vertical, rather than horizontal, approach to time defines the structures within the piece, divided amongst the performers. The whole is brought together through polyphony and the sonic interplay between the instruments.
The piece belongs to a group of the composer’s works which, in their construction, utilise computational techniques developed specifically for this purpose using computer programmes. Following appropriate substantive processing of the sound material, the composer achieves the desired sonic texture.
