!@! for 2 flutes and piano (2018)

Adrian M. Foltyn

Composer’s note

This piece marks a brief interlude in my fascination with algorithmic music. Although the interlude is only apparent – to me, the composer is the archetype of a programmer :-). The title – which deliberately exists only in written form – has something (I hope, not immediately obvious) in common with the piece’s form, its structure, as well as its source of algorithmic inspiration. I always leave the interpretation up to the listeners, and I’m curious to see how it varies. Harmony and improvisation are very important to me, and their connections with my Piano Concerto can probably be discerned. In both elements, the contribution of Agata, Łukasz and Andrzej is crucial, and I am very happy that it is they who breathe the !@! of their sensibilities and expression into the piece.
