Biography
Born in 1978, a graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, where he studied under Stanisław Krupowicz, and a member of the Polish Composers’ Union. His works have been performed at national and international festivals of new music, including Musica Polonica Nova, Musica Electronica Nova and The Dutch Music Days, and have been broadcast on Radio Netherlands Music, Deutschlandradio Kultur and Polish Radio Programme 2. He is a prize-winner of international and national composition competitions, including the Dutch „Yo” Foundation Competition for Euphonicumfor choir and symphony orchestra (2004), first prize at the T. Baird Young Composers’ Competition (2005) for Son’tasy 2.1 for two pianos and electronic media, and third prize at the ZAIKS Composition Competition for his Piano Concerto (2008).
He co-authored multimedia projects with artists from other fields of art (Paweł Lisek, Artificial Intelligence in Intelligent Art, 2013, Jan Smaga, Sekunda, 2014). In his compositions, he has utilised devices that detect directional changes in brain waves (?@? for cello and computer with Andrzej Bauer, Overfitting I for viola and computer with Rafał Zalec and Dariusz Jackowski). He is also an active pianist; in 2016 he performed alongside Maria Erdman in the world premiere of his piece From ClaPy import… for clavichord, piano and electronics.
Adrian is also a data scientist and researcher working to understand the connections between mathematics and music through neurocognitive modelling of harmonic tensions in musical compositions. A natural extension of this work is his interest in deep neural networks and the possibilities for their use in integrating music with words and images.
