Get carried away by contemporary Polish flute music

Recordings of contemporary music for the flute are rare in Poland. With the exception of radio recordings, a few albums featuring works by the most prominent Polish composers, and amateur recordings on the Internet, these works are not professionally recorded or distributed.

For many years, Łukasz Długosz has been the driving force behind commissioning works from numerous Polish composers. These commissions have been carried out in collaboration with many institutions and festivals.

Thanks to the artist’s active involvement over the past dozen or so years, nearly 60 new works have been created—ranging from concertos for flute and two flutes, through chamber music, to solo works—written by nearly 40 composers.

Many of these works were created through the “Composition Commissions” program of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance.

All of these compositions have been publicly premiered, and some of them have been recorded for Polish Radio and record labels. However, a significant portion of these works has yet to receive professional documentation and promotion. The Flautoforte project fills this gap and enables flutists in Poland and around the world to discover new musical literature.

Recordings of the pieces are available for free online and are supplemented by interviews with composers, comments from musicians, and excerpts from rehearsals. Whenever possible, in addition to the online recordings, sheet music for the recorded compositions will also be made available.
